Net Institution: University of Malaya Country: Malaysia Date: 2016 Language: Malay Abstract: This study focuses on the health language used in Al Jazeera.net as an example of sociolinguistic research field. It contains specific terms that are often used in the writings as well as a large number of borrowings from other languages that have been adapted to the original language of this platform. This study aims to identify the health related specific terms used in Al Jazeera online content and determine their frequency. Using morphophonology analysis, the study seeks to explain the original meaning of borrowed terms from foreign languages and show the changes that happen when adopted to the new linguistic context. This qualitative research involved 15 health news articles published by Al Jazeera Net and selected from archival sources during May 2015. Theoretically, the study draws on Leech & Short theory as well as Nathesan’s approach. The study found that Al Jazeera Net has certainly used original terms in writing health articles in Arabic, but has also used terms that come from a number of other languages. A few morphological and phonological changes happened in the process when Arabic language adapted the loanwords.
