For the public to receive and perceive news in a particular way, mass media ignore deliberately certain events or aspects of stories, while drawing attention to others. In the process of selecting, producing and disseminating news, framing might affect how audiences interpret and evaluate the stories they receive through the media. This study focuses on the way news related to the 2013 Egypt coup are covered by Al Arabiya and Al Jazeera using framing theory. It investigates how the differences of regional interests of the Middle Eastern monarchies are reflected in the selection of news frames by these two online news services. The analysis concludes that differences and similarities are encountered in the news frames used by both websites. It was also clear that similarities of the news frames are caused by using the same sources, while the differences are caused by the different ideologies adopted by monarchies, which the web sites belong to.
