The study analyzed the content of a sample consisting of 120 news reports covering a number of events that took place between 2011 and 2016. The study concluded that the two channels went beyond reporting events and providing information on the Yemeni and Syrian crises. They both became part of these events and their media coverage contributed to inciting sensationalism and violence. Their news framework shifted from straightforward reporting of events to drawing a mental image. In the Yemeni crisis, Al Jazeera channel was mainly interested in covering the news of the Arab coalition forces, while BBC Arabic was mainly interested in covering the news of the Houthis and the Saleh forces. In the Syrian crisis, Al Jazeera’s coverage blamed the Syrian regime and army and held them responsible for the violence, while the BBC coverage showed that the responsibility was divided equally between the Syrian army and the Free Army.
