The examination covers both mainstream and citizen media. As research cases, the study looks specifically at the human rights related articles published during the year 2016 in citizen media website “Global Voices” in addition to two mainstream media outlets, the Guardian and Al Jazeera English. Theoretically, the study draws on a number of frameworks including theories about human rights representation in media, continuum of professionalism in the period of digitization and globalization of news. The content of the selected three media organizations is analyzed and compared using the quantitative methodology. The comparative quantitative content analysis helped identify the similarities and differences in the way these media handle human rights issues. The research findings showed that there are more similarities in human rights representation in content than in form. The three media outlets raise and cover almost the same issues regionally and globally and provide similar information, however, the ways in which they present such information differ from one outlet to another.
