Name: Hani M.A. Awad Title: Al Jazeera and Al Mayadeen Websites Media Coverage of the Yarmouk Camp Crisis: An Analytical Study Institution: Middle East University Country: Jordan Date: 2017 Language: Arabic Abstract: This study examines the media coverage for Al-Yarmouk Camp by Al Mayadeen and Al Jazeera websites during the Syrian crisis. It investigates the integrity of the coverage of these two sites for events that happened in the Camp in 2015. The study used the descriptive approach and the content analysis methodology. Before distributing the survey among respondents, its reliability was tested repeatedly and checked by a group of experts. The sample of the study consists of news items from the websites of Al Jazeera.net and Al-Mayadeen.net from 1 April to 1 October 2015. The key findings revealed that Al Jazeera website concentrates on the human side of the events with a percentage of 52.48%, while Al- Mayadeen website focuses on the military aspect with a percentage of 39.02%. The study also found that Al Jazeera. net was generally on the opposition side with a percentage of 55.93%, but Al-Mayadeen website was clearly supportive of the Syrian regime with a percentage of 83.33%. These findings show that both websites follow the policies of the channels to which they belong concerning the coverage of Syrian issues.
