The study analyzes and compares a sample of news items from two broadcasters, the Egyptian Dream and the Qatari Aljazeera channels. The study draws on the agenda setting theory and uses content analysis approach to analyze the collected data. It investigates four aspects of media coverage of the attempted coup, the journalistic genres, the artistic treatment, the media sources, and the values that both channels observed in their coverage. The findings showed that the two channels focused on interviews and live debates to present their content due to the nature of the event and its progress, they also used the report format to enrich their coverage and provide viewers with more details. One of the main artistic elements used in the coverage is the images, both still and moving, in addition to graphics that played an important role in enhancing the coverage. Regarding the sources, the two channels relied heavily on interviews to cover the story from different angles and follow the developments as they happened.
