This topic is investigated in light of a comparative study between Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya online services and their coverage of the 2017-18 Gulf Crisis. As both Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya news networks are sponsored by two countries directly involved in crisis, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the analysis of the news reports by the two websites aims to offer insights into the conflict and the ideology of both sides. Using critical discourse (CDA) methodology, the study covers three dimensions: linguistic, discursive and social. The corpus of the critical discourse analysis consists of a set of eight articles posted on both news sites during the crisis; each set covers the same subject. The study concludes that both news networks used various strategies in their news reports on the crisis such as hegemonization, negative other-presentation, positive self-presentation, and role allocation. The analysis offers insights in the ideology of both sides in the conflict and shows how both sides constructed the conflict and each other in line with the ideology of their country.
