Developing countries, like Nepal, are known to have significantly bias, insufficient and miss-representation on the International Media. Like other developing countries, Nepal faces less representation, negative image building, politically motivated agenda settings and applying wrong news framing. Media scholars, such as Daya Kishan Thussu, divide International media flow in two categories, dominant and contra- flow. They consider western media networks, like the BBC and CNN, as representing dominant flow, while Al Jazeera network and CCTV as examples of contra-flow media. Previous studies focused on traditional media, namely print, radio, television and films but rarely on new media. Using multiple research methodologies combined with content analysis, this study identified some crucial facts, which can help understand the way Nepalese issues are covered by Al Jazeera online news. The study concludes that Al Jazeera, although considered as contra-flow, does not always cover and promote all perspectives equally. Its content bears inherent bias and promotes marginalized communities and individuals. Situations like poverty, disasters, frustration, destruction, hopelessness, in particular, are widely covered. The research findings also confirm that the majority of news stories about Nepal bear subjective interpretation.
