The analysis of discourse enables us to interpret, analyze, compare, and deconstruct the media discourse of news organization, especially during times of crises. This study applies the discourse analysis approach to investigate and compare the media discourse of the Qatari satellite channel Al Jazeera and the Saudi satellite channel Al Arabia. The study focuses on the media discourse of these two influential news channels in the Arab world to identify its structure and characteristics, and assess the performance of each channel during the Gulf crisis that started in 2017 when Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain blockaded Qatar. To this end, the researcher used three analytical mechanisms: defining the main topics in the media discourse of both channels, outlining their building of arguments, and identifying the key players in the crisis. The study adopted two methodologies, the survey and the comparative research and concluded with a number of findings on the subject.
