It focuses on Al Jazeera and the Syrian channel ‘Sama’ as research cases. The research sample consists of 6 episodes of talk shows from the two channels: “the Opposite Direction” broadcast on Al Jazeera and “the Event Screen” broadcast on Sama. The sample of analyzed episodes covers the period from March to November 2018. The study employed a comparative descriptive approach and used the content analysis tool to analyze and compare the content of selected materials. The comparison of the media coverage of this issue between Al Jazeera and Sama channels highlights the two channels’ editorial policies and tendencies towards the Syrian refugees in Germany in particular and the Syrian crisis in general. The study concluded with a number of results showing that both programmes, Al Jazeera’s “Opposite Direction” and Sama’s “Event Screen” dealt with the issue of Syrian refugees in Germany with different media strategies, and in different ways through the use of dialogue, interview, report and other journalistic formats.
