As-Salman Title: The Coverage of Al Jazeera News Channel for Turkey’s ‘Operation Olive Branch’ in Syrian Afrin: Analytical Study Institution: Yarmouk University Country: Jordan Date: 2019 Language: Arabic Abstract: This study aims to identify the topics raised by Al Jazeera news channel during its media coverage of ‘Operation Olive Branch’ carried out by the Turkish military forces in Afrin, across the Syrian borders, in January 2018. The study analyzes the ways in which the channel reported this military operation in order to determine the direction of the news coverage, its nature, news sources, and the journalistic styles used in it. Through the statistical analysis of the content of this coverage, the study reached a number of results, most notably the fact that the political topics ranked first among all the topics covered by the channel in the news bulletins during its coverage of Operation Olive Branch, with a rate reaching 35%. The military topics of that operation came in second place with a rate of 17.2%. The results also showed the emergence of a neutral trend in coverage of this operation. This category of news obtained a large percentage of 45.3% compared to the rest of trends (opposed and agreed) in the coverage of Al Jazeera news bulletins for the Afrin Operation.
