Bushra Ismail Abu Hamda Title: Job Burnout and Psychological Satisfaction of Workers in Political Newsrooms: Al Jazeera Channel’s Newsroom as a Case Study Institution: Doha Institute for Graduate Studies Country: Qatar Year: 2019 Language: Arabic Abstract: This study examines the level of job burnout and psychological satisfaction and their impact on social relationships among Al Jazeera newsroom workers compared to their colleagues in beIN Sports. The study used quantitative and qualitative methodologies to analyze a sample of 112 employees of Al Jazeera compared to 39 employees of beIN Sports. A number of criteria were applied to the research sample, including life satisfaction, relationship quality, psychological well- being (PERMA), job burnout (Burnout MBI), and the DSS21 scale to determine the levels of depression, anxiety and stress. The qualitative analysis examined a sample of 12 employees of Al Jazeera channel. The findings showed that there is no statistically significant difference between news and sports employees regarding job burnout and psychological well-being. Regarding life satisfaction, the difference was in favor of the sports channel’s employees. The level of mental health and quality of social relationships, no difference was found between all the sample members. The qualitative analysis indicated that the employees of Al Jazeera satellite channel suffer from great psychological pressure, which negatively affects their psychological health and their family and social relationships.
