Name: Najwa Saleh Al-Shanaq Title: Journalistic Treatment of the Iranian Nuclear File in Al Jazeera and Al Arabia News Websites: Analytical Study Institution: Yarmouk University Country: Jordan Date: 2020 Language: Arabic: Abstract: This study examines the journalistic treatment of the Iranian nuclear file and its main topics in the Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya news websites. This descriptive comparative study used a comprehensive survey and inventory method to collect the relevant data from the content published on these two outlets for the period between May 1 and June 30, 2019. The research findings showed that both sites used the news format predominantly, and this journalistic genre came first with a percentage of 44.7%, followed by news reports with a percentage of 34.3%. The study also found that both sites relied on Western sources, to a large extent, with a percentage of 31.5%, followed by Iranian sources with a percentage 26.6%. Regarding the topics, both sites focused their coverage on the escalation of the US-Iranian relations because of the Iranian nuclear programme with a percentage of 25.2%. The topic of nuclear energy and weapon development came second by 19.6%. As for the news frames, both sites showed great interest in using the conflict frame, which came first with 30.7, followed by single case frames rating 14.7%.
