Name: Anmar Waheed Faydy Title: The Political Directions of News Coverage of Iraq on Al Jazeera Net: A Content Analysis of News and Reports Institution: University of Baghdad Country: Iraq Date: 2008 Language: Arabic Abstract: This thesis deals with news coverage in electronic press, focusing on Al Jazeera Net website as a case study. In order to examine the editorial policy of the website, and to know the extent to which the personal tendencies and preferences of journalists interfere with the news- making process, the study focuses on news items and news reports categories. In this context, the researcher chose a selected sample of news items and news reports published by Al Jazeera Net during the last three months of the year 2006. This selection is justified by the major political developments that took place in Iraq during this period. After the handover of the new government formed under the American occupation, the country witnessed instability, widespread unrest and violent incidents. Add to that, the political trials that took place during the same period, most notably the trial of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, which ended with his public execution. To collect the required data and analyze it, the researcher used a questionnaire, which he distributed to a selected sample of staff members from the Al Jazeera Net website.
