It seeks to identify the most active personalities on those platforms, who appear on the channel’s interactive program “Nashratukom” (your bulletin) more frequently. In so doing, the study determines the trends and policies of this news bulletin that mainly broadcasts user-generated content. The nature, affiliations and specializations of hosted personalities shed light on the level of bias or commitment to professional journalistic standards on these social media platforms compared to traditional media. The study used the content analysis methodology to analyze a sample of news items and users comments broadcast on the Al Jazeera “Nashratukom” programme. The study recommends that media institutions in general and Al Jazeera channel in particular, apply their professional codes of ethics to their social media platforms as they do with their traditional media content. They need to report events in an honest and balanced manner, without focusing on specific events and neglecting others that may be more important to than those which are given more space and airtime in news bulletins.
