The study analyzes the coverage of the two channels in terms of news reports, topics of coverage, news sources, and the guests they hosted. The study chose the Qatari Al Jazeera and the Lebanese Al Mayadeen due to their different editorial policies and because they present opposing positions on the Syrian crisis. These differences enable the researcher to reach important conclusions about the impact of political positions on news coverage. The study used the survey and the content analysis method to analyze a random sample of 125 news reports from the two channels. The findings showed that the two channels employed news reports about the crisis to express their political positions. They both two relied on their editors to produce these reports, in addition to their own correspondents inside and outside Syria. They both relied on political analysts and strategists who support their respective views. Military issues were the most prominent topics in their coverage, followed by humanitarian and political issues. 305.
