Description: This book examines the media reporting of terrorism by Western news channels CNN International and BBC World compared with the Al Jazeera English coverage. Al Jazeera English is the first English-language broadcaster to broadcast via satellite from the Middle East and sees itself as an independent and objective medium, but at the same time wants to convey a ‘different’ perspective and different narrative. Over a six-month investigation period, the author compared and analyzed relevant news reports by the three networks on various terrorism acts. The study employed a combined qualitative and quantitative methodology to analyze visual elements using a specially designed codebook. Visual factors and contribution characteristics are discussed in detail, and country-specific features are also taken into account in this comparative analytical study.
