Matt Jarson

Matt Jarson became an Ivy Tech student after years of being in the restaurant industry. Despite earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government, his love for cooking always remained. One day, Matt and his father joined a family friend to help with an event. His friend, an alum of Ivy Tech Indianapolis' Hospitality Administration program, also brought on Ivy Tech Hospitality Administration students and Program Chair Chef Jeff Bricker. What started as helping a friend at an event became a conversation to consider earning a degree from Ivy Tech to advance his passion for culinary arts. Matt was initially hesitant, unsure of what else he had to learn after being in the industry for so long. He decided to go for it and was so glad he did. Today, Matt is a proud Ivy Tech alum and executive chef and co-owner of the All American Picnic Company. He is also an adjunct instructor, helping those like him with a passion for culinary arts. He is also passionate about sharing the good work taking place at Ivy Tech for those looking to give back, emphasizing that it only takes one person to make a significant impact on someone's life. Catrina Tate Alumna, donor and vice president retail at Teachers Credit Union As Catrina Tate was beginning her career, she also started taking classes at Ivy Tech Indianapolis to enhance a variety of skills. It wasn't easy for this working mom, but the flexibility provided to her by her professors and the College helped her successfully earn a business degree and continue on to earn her Bachelor's degree. The skills she learned helped Catrina as she advanced with her employer, Teachers Credit Union. Starting as a branch manager early on, today she serves as its Vice President Retail. And as she’s progressed, she was able to give. She knew she wanted to help students like her have the chance to return to school with less worry about the financial aspect. She also knew that giving back to Ivy Tech would benefit the community as a whole. In addition to starting her scholarship, Catrina also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, alongside Ivy Tech leadership. Catrina's efforts and passion for giving back also led her to be the October 2021 recipient of Teachers Credit Union's "Leadership in Community Service" award. This award is a part of TCU's David R. Sage Awards, given annually to employees who demonstrate the leadership and values of former board chairman David R. Sage, who served with company leadership for nearly four decades.
