Hockey Showcase weekend in Rockland

The Saturday round of Showcase games saw the Hill U18 squad clip the Okanagan Red 5-4, Edge School beat the CIHA Green 3-1, Ontario Hockey froze out Edmonton 3-2, Delta slid past Hill Academy 4-3, Yale and the Hill U18 tied four-all. Sundaymorning’s Showcase final round finished with Hill Academy doubling up against Edmonton 4-2, Edge School skunked the Hill U16 squad 9-0, Yale hammered the Cumberland Grads 14-5, Okanagan Red slamming the Ontario Hockey Academy 8-3, and Delta trouncing the CIHA White 8-2.

Almost a dozen of the top teams fromeight of the best hockey schools in Canada hit the ice, for three days straight of games, at the Clarence-Rockland Arena over the Feb. 12 weekend. The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) chose Rockland’s Cana- dian International Hockey Academy (CIHA) as this year’s venue for its Eastern Canada ShowcaseWeekend event.The league exists to provide “elite level student athletes” with major organized events which help them “to increase their skill levels off and on the ice, while also providing themwith a high level of competition and exposure. This year’s Showcase featured two teams from the CIHA, two each fromHill Academy of Vaughn, ON, and Cornwall’s Ontario Hoc- key Academy, along with single teams from B.C.’s Delta Hockey Academy, Calgary’s Edge School, the OHA in Edmonton, Penticton’s Okanagan Hockey Academy, and the Yale Hockey Academy of Abbotsford, B.C. The Cumberland Grad’s junior A club made a guest game appearance for a Sunday mor- ning match against Yale Academy. The Friday opening round of games saw Okanagan’s Red team beat Hill Academy’s U16 7-2, Delta Academy 3-1 over Hill Aca- demy U18, Edge School shut down Edmon- ton 4-0, Yale hammer the Ontario Hockey Academy 8-3, the Okanagan Red freeze the CIHA White 11-1, Hill Academy U16 clip Edmonton 4-3, Delta blank Ontario Hockey Academy 5-0.
