Dr. Sara Jahnke It's my honor to share some of what Dr. Sara Jahnke has accomplished in her career, and the impact she has made on many people within the fire service. As the daughter of a longtime fire chief, Sara has worked for many years to better the health, wellness, safety, and quality of life of
firefighters. For more than a decade, her career has been dedicated to conducting scientific research and packaging her findings in ways that can be practically communicated to emergency responders. Dr. Jahnke is the Director and Senior Principal Investigator of the Center for Fire, Rescue & EMS Health Research at the National Development & Research Institutes - USA. She has served as the principal investigator on more than ten national studies, as well as dozens of others where she served as a co- investigator. Her work focuses on a wide range of health issues relating to firefighters, such as behavioral health, risk of injury, cancer, cardiovascular risk factors, substance use, and the health of female firefighters. Sara believes that conducting the research is one thing but getting it into the hands of the practitioners in the field in the form of useful information and tools is another. With that in mind, Dr. Jahnke is the Founder and President of the unique and very successful "Science to the Station" organization, which is a national alliance that bridges the gap between evidence-based research and frontline practice. In that role, she oversees the strategic vision, program development, and several nationwide partnerships, including the popular Science to the Station "Nerdstock" Conference. Most recently, they have introduced the cutting-edge "Science, Conditions, Actions, & Needs (SCAN)" program designed to make research more fun and
