me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.” In verses 11 and 12 of this chapter we are told, “ . . . And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it . . . .” The time came for Elisha to die. Elijah had performed six miracles and Elisha, who had been promised a double portion of Elijah’s spirit, had performed only 11 miracles. God had not forgotten the promise given Elisha. In 2 Kings 13:20, 21 we read, “And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming of the year. And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.” Here is a promise fulfilled even after the man to whom it was given was dead. I dols O ld and N ew OBJECTS: Four paper hearts. (Cut a slot down the middle of three of the hearts 1 inch wide and 4(4 inches long. With one of these hearts placed over the uncut heart, print the word “ idols” on the uncut heart, allowing it to show through the slot. On the heart with the slot, using the word “ idols” complete the following words, “king,” “made,” “ golden,” “ calves” and “worshipped.” Place one of the other hearts over these and using the word “ idol,” complete the following words, “ sin,” “friends,” “ gold,” “ self” and “ pleasure.” Place the fourth heart over these and complete the words, “ Christ,” “ died,” “for,” “ all” and “ sin” . Turn this heart over and using the word “ idols,” complete the fol lowing, “ Christ’s,” “ Lordship,” “love,” “ loyalty” and “worship.” Color both sides of this heart a light red.) LESSON: I brought a heart with me this morning which is in trouble. No wonder it is in trouble, for I see the word “ idols” in the center of the heart. Anything which comes be tween the soul and God is an idol. We will place another heart over this one to show the condition of an an cient king named Jeroboam. We now read, “King made golden calves wor shipped.” In 2 Kings 17:22 we read, “For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them.” We forget that the ancients are not I the only ones guilty of having idols.
