the king to do and that was to pray. “Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the L ord , saying, I beseech thee, O L ord , remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore” (2 Kings 20:2, 3). We will cover this ring with this beautiful piece of silk to illustrate how Hezekiah covered his problem with prayer. (As you place the silk over the ring, transfer the duplicate ring which is in the left hand alongside of the black string and to the right of the original ring. Now ask the boy to your left to come in back of you and remove the silk while you hold his end of the string. This will allow you to slip the original ring off the string without being noticed.) As a pupil removes the silk, the ring is free. Hezekiah was freed from the death sentence when he prayed. In 2 Kings 20:5, 6 we read, “ . . . Thus saith the L ord , the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the L ord . And I will add unto thy days fifteen years . . . .” This seemed to Hezekiah almost too good to be true so he asked Isaiah the prophet how he might know', and the Lord moved the shad ow backward on the sun dial to assure him that God had answered his prayer.
