King's Business - 1918-10

867 Then we used the Sword of the Spirit, and dug up the fact that it was feelings this really sincere soul was waiting for, and the thrills not being immediately forthcoming he concluded that it was all a dread ful mistake to take God at His own word. There was evidently belief in the heart, but in the absence of any confession with the mouth unto salva tion, and ignorant of the assurance from the blessed Book itself, it was the easiest thing in the. world for the Adversary to gain the advantage and put this soul under a cloud. The Word was again used with telling effect. The old lines of care and trouble were swept away, but the devil wasn’t going to let him have the joy of salvation without another tussle, for no sooner had we left him than he was approached by one with a zeal but not according to knowl edge, who began with a most touching and sentimental story, ending up with the advice to go home and pray, but» never a word from God to grip the heart, and settle the faith. Why will people use their own arguments and illustra tions so often to the utter exclusion of those wonderful words of life which God alone has promised to use unto the salvation of men? Coming in contact with another needy heart, it was a delight to discover fruit all ripe for the picking. A fine, clean, moral chap, direct from a Christian home in the far East,— there he was, halting between two opinions, whether to settle it then and there or to go home and think it over again. It only needed the loving personal touch, and, oh, what a joy thrilled through thé worker’s heart as he dropped into an evangelistic meeting just a few nights afterwards to listen to these two souls ringing out their clear, joyous testimony to the sav ing power of the Lord Jesus Christ! “ The Seed Is the Word of God” “ My son is leaving soon for France and I do so long to know that he is

Unfortunately many do not realize the great need among these strangers within our gates. While the Mexican government has prohibited for eigners from working in Mexico, yet God has permitted thousands of them to come within our reach, and it is up to us to give them the Gospel for as some one has said, “ If the Mexicans are not evangelized, they will become a menace.” May the Lord awaken us all to our duty in this matter. Not Feelings but Faith In grappling with souls one has con stantly to remember that the import ance of giving the Word of God cannot be over-empha- THE WORK IN sized, and more THE SHOPS especially is it David.Cant, Supt. essential, w h e n possible, to get the awakened souls to read the passages for themselves. One needs to say very little. Just let the Word reach the con science and endeavor to keep one’s self as much in the background, unseen and unnoticed, as possible, present the risen and exalted Christ Jesus as the object of faith and salvation. J. N. Darby puts it finely: “ Haying nothing, being nothing, seeing nothing, but a risen Christ in glory,.and careful for nothing but His interests down here.” Only last week this ' great truth was brought home anew as still another anxious inquirer professed to receive Christ as his personal Saviour. When we inquired the following night how it was with him,—Oh, such a note of despondency and discouragement— “ I’m not saved” !
