A Walk on the Wild Side in Yeats Country
Famed for its breathtaking scenery, County Sligo is known as Yeats Country as it inspired many great works by the poet W.B. Yeats. We embrace the area’s beautiful landscapes on this new tour with a walking tour of Rosses Point, a scenic Wild Atlantic Way drive and a River Shannon cruise. We also enjoy some traditional Irish experiences with visits to an authentic distillery and a sheep farm. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Carrick-on-Shannon Cruise & The Shed Distillery This morning we make our way to the pretty, bustling town of Carrick-on-Shannon. From the marina, we board our Pleasure Cruiser for a relaxing 1 hour cruise on the mighty River Shannon, including tea/coffee and scones . We enjoy on-board entertainment and guided commentary before returning to dry land where we have free time for lunch in this picturesque town. This afternoon we travel the short distance to Drumshanbo to visit The Shed Distillery , the home of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey. We learn more about this authentic distillery as we are treated to a guided tour and tastings of whiskey and gin. Day 3 Sligo We spend today at leisure in Sligo where we can follow in the footsteps of Yeats and visit the sights and scenes that inspired him. Attractions include the Sligo County Museum & Art Gallery, Yeats Society Memorial Building, Sligo Abbey and The Model, Home of The Niland Collection arts centre and gallery. Day 4 Rosses Point, Wild Atlantic Way Drive & Atlantic Sheepdogs This morning we make our way to the picturesque Rosses Point and embark on a fascinating walking tour , discovering the history of the area’s coastal heritage while admiring the gorgeous setting. More stunning scenery awaits as we reboard our coach and enjoy a scenic drive along parts of the Wild Atlantic Way in County Sligo en route to Grange. We arrive at the Feeney family farm, home to the Atlantic Sheepdogs experience , where we see some of the world’s smartest sheepdogs in action. Champion sheepdog handler Martin and his family provide an insight into the ancient sheep breeds that the farm has put efforts into conserving and we have the chance to get hands on with the sheep as well as witness an amazing display of teamwork as we see the beautiful border collies herding sheep. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. ®
