The Tyrol by Cruise, Cable Cars & Cogwheel Trains Travel the Tyrol in style on this superb tour featuring a journey on Europe’s oldest cog railway, a relaxing Lake Achen cruise and a cable car ride to the top of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze! We also spend time in the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck and the Bavarian town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Innsbruck Today we visit the Tyrolean capital city of Innsbruck, surrounded by the jagged rock spires of the Nordkette mountain range. We could choose to enjoy a horse and carriage ride through the streets of the old town to discover some of the most important sights, including the Hofgarten, the ornate 15th century Golden Roof designed as a royal box for the Emperor, the Column of Saint Anne and the Triumphal Arch. Day 3 Igls Driver’s Day Off We spend today at leisure in Igls. We may choose to embark on a scenic cable car ride up the mountain or take the bus for a 10 minute trip back to Innsbruck to This morning we embark on the Achenseebahn , Europe’s oldest cog railway, which is still steam operated. Puffing through the steeper sections, it rises to a 16% gradient from Jenbach to Seespitz . From here we re-join our coach for the short journey to the resort town of Pertisau. We enjoy time at leisure before relaxing on a one-way cruise from Pertisau to the northern shores of lovely Lake Achen, in Scholastika. Day 5 Zugspitze & Garmisch-Partenkirchen Today we enjoy an amazing journey to the top of Germany’s highest mountain, the majestic Zugspitze , which sits at 2,962 metres above sea level with the Austrian-German border running through its western summit. We start our ascent from the Austrian side via the stunning cable car journey from nearby Ehrwald, soaking in some of the most dramatic views we will ever see along the way. We spend some time at the summit, crossing into Germany, with time to admire the views of 400 mountain peaks spanning four countries, visible on clear days from the café and terraces. We then descend the German side of the mountain by cable car , before a cogwheel train transports us to the Bavarian town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we enjoy some time at leisure. Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home. further explore the Tyrolean capital. Day 4 Achenseebahn & Boat Cruise
