Our superb packaged tour includes guided tours of the elegant city of Salzburg plus the royal residence of Kaiservilla, a cruise to St Wolfgang and journeys on the Hallstatt cable car and the famous Schafberg Mountain Railway. Be prepared to be amazed! PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Salzburg Our journey today takes us to the home of ‘The Sound of Music’ and regional capital, Salzburg. The old town is a maze of charming pedestrian alleyways with many famous and historic landmarks. To enable us to get our bearings, we enjoy a 2 hour guided walking tour , after which we can explore the city at our leisure. Day 3 Zell am See Today we visit the pretty town of Zell am See, which is nestled on the shores of lovely Lake Zell and is one of Austria’s most popular resorts. We enjoy free time to stroll through the medieval centre and along the lake shores and may also wish to take in the beautiful scenery with a picturesque boat cruise or a cable car journey into the mountains. Day 4 Bad Ischl & Hallstatt Today we visit the delightful spa town of Bad Ischl, where the emperors of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy spent their summers. We begin by exploring the Kaiservilla with a guided tour. We then have additional time to explore before visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hallstatt , where we take the cable car up to the summit to experience the amazing views of the surrounding area. Day 5 Lake Wolfgang & Schafberg Mountain Railway Today includes a scenic journey to the shores of Lake Wolfgang and the traffic- free village of St Gilgen. After time to explore the village, we enjoy a 30 minute cruise across the water to the famous resort town of St Wolfgang. Here we join the steepest cog railway in Austria, the Schafberg Mountain Railway . In 40 minutes, the steam cog railway climbs 1,783 metres! On a clear day, we are treated to a 360° panoramic view of the sparkling lakes of Wolfgang in Austria and Chiemsee in Germany, with soaring mountains majestically framing the spectacular scenery. Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
