Pure Alpine Gold Glorious glacial peaks and luscious lakes await on this breathtaking new tour which takes us first to Switzerland and then on to France. Staying at the centrally located Derby Hotel in Grindelwald, we enjoy visits to Meiringen and the thundering Reichenbach Falls along with a relaxing lake cruise and a memorable journey on the panoramic Golden Pass train. As we move to the luxurious Hilton Evian-Les-Bains in France’s most celebrated spa resort we keep Lake Geneva within our sights with trips to Montreux, Yvoire and Lausanne where we visit the Olympic Museum & enjoy a final lake cruise. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Grindelwald & Jungfraujoch Driver’s Day Off We spend the day at leisure in Grindelwald. Why not take a ride on the Jungfrau Railway, which for more than 100 years has been making its journey to Europe’s highest altitude railway station at 3,454 metres. From Grindelwald station, we travel via Kleine Scheidegg all the way to the impressive Jungfraujoch summit, where we are greeted by a high-Alpine wonder world which can all be marvelled at from the spectacular viewing platforms. More phenomenal views await us on our return journey on the Eiger Express cable car back to Grindelwald. Our scenic journey lasts approximately 15 minutes, as we admire the famous Eiger North Face, surrounding Swiss Alps and Jungfrau region. Day 3 Meiringen, Reichenbach Falls & Lake Cruise We make our way to the lovely town of Meiringen this morning. Upon arrival we continue to bask in our pretty surrounds with a scenic return journey on the Reichenbach Falls Funicular. We sit back and marvel at the surrounding views as our wooden carriages transport us up the mountainside to the top of the cascading falls. Fans of Sherlock Holmes are in for a treat as this is the very spot where the famous detective fell to his (temporary) death! We then travel to the cosy village of Brienz, surrounded by mountains on the northeast shore of the turquoise-coloured Lake Brienz. This afternoon we embark on a delightful lake cruise from Brienz to Interlaken Ost, taking in the fabulous views, majestic mountain landscapes and shimmering waters. We can enjoy some time at leisure in the spectacular town of Interlaken before returning to our hotel. Day 4 Golden Pass Train & Montreux Our day begins in style with a picturesque journey on the extraordinary Golden Pass train from Interlaken to Montreux. The journey lasts just over 3 hours with the train’s huge windows offering sensational panoramic views of the surrounding scenery, including mountain passes, alpine peaks and glittering lakes. Upon arrival we enjoy free time to explore the elegant town of Montreux, made famous by its yearly jazz festival and its former famous resident, Freddie Mercury. We then continue our travels to our This morning we pack our passports and head to the small but beautiful medieval town of Yvoire, located on the French shore of Lake Geneva and nicknamed the ‘gem of the lake’, before continuing to the city of Lausanne on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Designated the Olympic Capital as the city houses the International Olympic Committee headquarters, Lausanne is home to the superb Olympic Museum . Here, we explore thousands of artifacts and thought-provoking exhibits relating to sport and the Olympic movement, and tuck into a tasty 3 course lunch with views over Lake Geneva and the Alps and Olympic memorabilia adorning the walls. After some free time exploring Lausanne’s stunning promenade, we embark on a scenic lake cruise from Lausanne to Évian and return to our hotel (the pier is conveniently located opposite our hotel).
