Check Your Heart Rachel Kuntzsch, Lansing Heart recipient Rachel Kuntzsch has poured time and passion into Check Your Heart, the most extensive Donor Registry campaign in Gift of Life history. Rachel vowed to help when and where she can — which was often and everywhere.

Congratulations to the 21 people or organizations in Michigan recognized this year for their extraordinary efforts to promote organ and tissue donation. Without them, Gift of Life’s efforts to fulfill the decisions of donors and their families would be difficult or impossible.

Artelia Griggs, Detroit Artelia Griggs is committed to dispelling frightening myths about donation — particularly within multicultural communities, which are underrepresented on the Donor Registry. She does it as a tribute to her daughter, Angela, who was a donor 12 years ago.

Dupnack was the first journalist to interview Jill Soave about her son’s legacy as an organ and tissue donor. Justin Shilling was killed in the 2021 Oxford High School shooting.
