16 Annual Convention eProgram th

March 12th-14th, 2026

New Orleans, Louisiana

Welcome to the 16th Annual APBA Convention! Conventions are always a time to learn, but they can be so much more. They are a time to connect with colleagues who understand the nuances of our work, with mentors and mentees, with old friends and maybe even some new ones! They are a time to pause and celebrate what we are collectively accomplishing as a profession. We are navigating complex challenges right now, such as funding pressures, public perception, workforce instability, and evolving practice standards- it can feel heavy but you are not alone! We are a community, and we must remember that we are stronger when we act together. My hope is that this weekend is restorative for you. That you return to your organizations, your clients, and your families with a renewed sense of purpose, clarity, and connection. We have an incredible event planned. This year’s program includes 23 workshops, 87 presentations, and 34 posters! The theme of this year’s convention is “Connect,” and we have leaned into that theme at every step of planning. When we opened the call for reviewers, we had to close it after just five days because we received more than 50 submissions. The content of this conference is truly a reflection of current research and practice in the field, reviewed by the field, and hosted by APBA. We often say that we are nothing without our community. This convention is proof of that truth. Included in that community is our incredible Board of Directors. They put in countless hours throughout the year to make APBA the place practitioners turn for support. APBA is a direct reflection of their collective experience, wisdom, and care. I would also like to recognize Kiel Scates, APBA’s Director of Strategic Engagement. This convention is the result of her vision, relentless hard work, and careful execution of every detail. We are also deeply grateful to our sponsors and exhibitors. They contribute both time and treasure to support APBA and this event. This convention would not be possible without their partnership. I encourage you to visit them, learn from them, and thank them for investing in this community and in the future of our field. Our goal was to design a convention with a perfect blend of professional growth and enjoyment. We’ll kick things off with our welcome party on Thursday, complete with networking events, beignets, and entertainment! Breakfast will be provided both mornings so you can eat while celebrating our award winners and attending the members’ meeting. Lunch is included both days so there’s no need to leave the hotel! Enjoy heavy appetizers at the poster event on Friday and at the lightning session on Saturday. Don’t miss the pre-party lounge on Friday night, then head to the game room or the dance party for a night of connection. Fun is not frivolous. So get ready to learn, connect, and have a blast! WELCOME

KEYNOTE PRESENTATION

FRIDAY, MARCH 13 AT 8:30 AM CT

DR. LYZ HUGHES FONG MEMORIAL KEYNOTE: SHAPING TOMORROW: SCIENCE AND EQUITY IN BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS DR. NOOR SYED Equity challenges in the ABA field and broader social environment have shaped access to services, representation, and research, sometimes advancing inclusion and, at other times, perpetuating systemic inequities. In this discussion, we will examine historical moments, current data, and ethical dilemmas that underscore the importance of cultural responsivity and humility towards mitigating those inequities. As Dr. Lyz Hughes Fong reminds us, "Cultural humility is not just a skill—it’s a mindset. It’s about listening, learning, and being willing to be wrong.” Together, we will explore practical, evidenced-based strategies that embed human rights, equity, and responsivity into our work as behavior analysts— and we will start by our willingness to listen, learn, and be wrong.

KEYNOTE PRESENTATIONS

SATURDAY, MARCH 14 AT 8:30 AM CT KEYNOTE: ABA IN UNCHARTED TERRITORIES: BEYOND MEDICALLY FUNDED SERVICES, WHAT’S NEXT? DR. MARGARET UWAYO Over the past three decades, behavior analysis has grown significantly, largely through its recognition as a medically necessary treatment for autism. While this growth has strengthened the field, it has also narrowed its scope and limited funding opportunities in other critical areas, including education. As medically funded ABA faces new challenges, behavior analysts have an opportunity to expand their impact by addressing inequities in educational access and outcomes, particularly for children from marginalized backgrounds. This presentation explores how the science of behavior can contribute to improving literacy and educational success. The speaker will outline key competencies needed to expand ABA’s role in education and describe a nonprofit school model that applies behavior-analytic strategies to develop early and advanced verbal repertoires. Barriers and practical solutions for expanding practice in education will also be discussed.
