(7) The Separated, v. 11. (Separation being the alternative of Reconciliation.) IV. The Glory of the Gift—“Hath abounded unto many,” v. 15. V. The Gratuitousness of the Gift— “The Free Gift,” v. 15. "He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him, also freely give us all things.”— (Rom. 8:32-) —F. J. D. —o— THE PRECIOUS BLOOD “It is the bloo4 that maketh an atonement for the soul” (Lev. 17:11). This is an Old Testament text full of New Testament meaning. Just let us note some of the blessings that have been secured for us through “the blood of Jesus” (Heb. 10:19). 1. —REDEMPTION. It is not with corruptible things such as silver or gold that we are redeemed, “but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb jKrithQut blemish and without spot" (1 Pet. 1:19). For “we have redemption through His blood.” 2. —REMISSION. “Without shed ding of blood is no remission” (Heb. 9:22), but the blood of Jesus was shed for “the remission of sins” (Matt. 26:28), and “to Him give all the prophets witness, that whosoever believeth in Him shall receive re mission of sins” (Acts 10:43). 3. —JUSTIFICATION. "God com- mendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we .shall be saved from wrath through Him” (Rom. 5:8, 9). 4.—CLEANSING. “The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanseth us 4rom all sin” (1 John 1:7). “For if the blood of bulls and of goats . . . sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh,-how much more shall the blood of Christ . . . purge your consciences from dead works to serve the living God?” 5. —PEACE. “Therefore, being jus tified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom. 54X)-, "because He - has. made peace through the blood of His Cross” (Col. 1:20). 6. —ACCESS. "Now in Christ Jesus ye who sometime were afar off are made nigh by the blood of Christ” (Eph. 2:13). “Having . . . boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus . . . let us draw near” (Heb. 10:19-22). . ----- 7.—COMMUNION. He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the New Testament in My blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:20).
