YEAR 10 WAR HORSE TRIP
On Monday the 1st and Thursday 4th June Year 10 drama students went to see War Horse at the National Theatre. As part of the Drama GCSE course, year 10 have to study War Horse as a play and make notes about the performance for their exam next year. War Horse is a play adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s book about a boy named Albert and his Horse named Joey and their journey during WWI. The play uses life-sized horses from Handspring Puppet Company and a stirring musical score to bring to life this timeless story of love, friendship and courage. This performance had many Year 10s in tears because of how heartwarming and action packed the performance was.
Waterloo, where we had a picture in front of the Paddington Bear mural, before walking to The National Theatre. We had a quick History lesson by Mr Page about the origins of the bridges on the Thames before we were handed our tickets and went into the theatre. Before the show started many of us wrote notes about the starting set of the play and continued to write during the interval and after the show had finished. In my opinion, the show was one of the best I have seen and made the audience truly believe that Joey was a real horse with feelings and not just a puppet.
War Horse taught us the power of friendship and resilience even in difficult times. It also showed the audience the damage that war can have on everyone, including animals, and the pain that they had to go through as well.
