This year an impressive set of Year 10 students put themselves forward for the positions of House Captains. Students gave passionate hustings speeches, canvassed their peers for votes and finally interviewed with the Leadership team. Congratulations to all our newly appointed Head Girl, Sophie S, her deputies and House Captains. I know you will all do a fantastic job next academic year, supported by the rest of your peers.		4

Summer Festival 2026		25
student, Robyn ZB, using one as a musical instrument for the piece. Nearing the end of Waldegrave’s brilliant gala, from the musical ‘Annie get your Gun’, two talented Sixth Formers, Eleanor O and Elliott B duetted ‘Anything you can do, I can do better’, wowing the audience with their voices. Finally, finishing off the festival, everyone chimed in with Monty Python’s comedy classic ‘Always look on the Bright side of Life’ concluding an excellent evening.		26
As a closing congratualtions, we would all like to thank the Performing Arts Department and fantastic performers for putting on such a wonderful show and to all the lovely Friends of Waldegrave who volunteered to help.		26

BERLIN: A CITY FULL OF DIVERSITY AND CONTRASTS. IT HAS ONLY BEEN 36 YEARS SINCE DIE WENDE, OR THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL, WHICH MEANS OUR CLASS WASN’T JUST LEARNING ABOUT HISTORY ON THIS TRIP- WE WERE LIVING IT, AS THIS EVENT SHAPED MODERN EUROPE AS WE KNOW IT TODAY. WE BEGAN OUR ADVENTURE ON THE 22ND JUNE MEETING IN HEATHROW AT 4:45 AM- SO EARLY I WAS CONSIDERING SHAKING A FEW LARKS AWAKE! HOWEVER, MORALE WAS HIGH AS WE WERE EAGER TO SET OFF WITH OUR FRIENDS TO EXPLORE A NEW PLACE, BEGINNING WITH A WHISTLE-STOP WALKING TOUR, COURTESY OF MR BANNISTER’S HISTORY FACTS (HE SOMEHOW MANAGED TO PACK IN POINTS ABOUT EVERYTHING FROM THE PRUSSIANS TO POTSDAM), AND AN ASCENT OF THE MARVELLOUS SIEGESSÄULE, OR VICTORY COLUMN. Our role in the picnic was to lead, in pairs, a group of 10-15 Year 3s at St James’ Primary School through activities, such as traditional French songs and games (Frère Jacques and 1,2,3 Soleil, to name a few). We regathered as a big group and sang along with the French accordionist, Fifi La Mer, to songs such as Un Éléphant and Sur Le Pont D’Avignon. Afterwards there was a picnic, where the children lined up to collect some food (such as grapes, cheese and juice) which was served by the monitrices.		49
The most challenging part of the event was not speaking English throughout the whole afternoon, which we found especially hard since the children were not always sure what we were saying! Even so, they really enjoyed it and we could tell that they were having a great time. One of the things that made it even more enjoyable was how it felt like a fun gathering rather than an educational activity.		49
Overall, it was a very successful afternoon, and us French leaders got to enjoy our own picnic the following day!		49
