In late April to early May, we were lucky enough to visit the Buddhapadipa Temple In Wimbledon. 2 forms went each day by coach and we travelled for approximately 30 minutes. On arrival we were greeted by temple staff who were very helpful throughout the day. The temple was stunning, with white walls and a bright red roof with gold details outlining the windows and the main entrance. Before entering the temple we were asked to remove our shoes, this is to show respect and cleanliness and that everyone is equal no matter their wealth nor their status - a key principle of the Buddhist faith. Inside I could see a great shrine surrounded by flowers, candles and Year 8 Buddha Temple Trip
decorations. The shrine centred around three Buddha statues, one black, one gold and one green. This green statue is a replica of Thailand's Emerald Buddha. The walls of the Temple were covered in colourful handpainted drawings, depicting the life of the Buddha. After having some time to soak in the spectacular surroundings we were greeted by a monk who we meditated with. We were told that when you chant you should wish blessings on your family, friends and the people around you rather than on wishes for yourself. Finally, we were lucky enough to explore the garden. It was peaceful and calm surrounded in blossomed flowers.
