APRIL 29 Reflecting Him

APRIL 27 God’s Stops

PIANO IN A NUTSHELL SONGS

"But we all, with unveiled face reflecting as a mirror the glory o f the Lord, are trans formed into the same image" (2 Cor. 3:18, R. V ., margin). A broken bit of the commonest glass, when it catches the sun’s rays, will glitter upon the ground like a jewel. If you run forward and pick it up, it is discovered to be nothing of any value . . . In this is fur nished a parable of soul transfiguration. The redeemed one, though in himself so worthless, may be a mirror that in him may be reflected upon the world the glory of the Sun of Righteousness. Then he be comes changed into His image. — F ran klin F ergu son . Natural strength and ability are not suf ficient for our life and service as believers, for “even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall.” The task is beyond even the seem ingly inexhaustible and robust vitality of the young. The only real "fountain of youth,” the only truly inexhaustible sup ply of strength and courage is in “the everlasting God”; it is He that “giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength” so that day by day, they may "run, and not be weary;. . . walk, and not faint." — G eorge H. S ev ille . APRIL 30 Supernatural Strength "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength" (Isa. 40:31).

"Having been forbidden o f the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia . . . they assayed to go into Bithynia; and the Spirit o f Jesus suffered them not" (Acts 16:6, 7, R .V .). God has promised to guide our steps. He likewise guides our stops. Sometimes God says to us as He did to Moses, "Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord." —Brethren Evangelist. The Fragrant Life "And thou shalt be like a watered gar den, and like a spring o f water, whose wa ters fail not" (Isa. 58:11). Holiness appears to me to be of a sweet, pleasant, . . . . calm nature. It seemed to me . . . that it made the soul like a field or garden of God, with all manner of pleasant flowers that is all pleasant, delightful, and undisturbed; enjoying a sweet calm, and the gently vivifying beams of the sun. The soul of a true Christian appeared like such a little white flower, as we see in the spring of the year, low and humble on the ground, opening its bosom to receive the pleasant beams of the sun's glory; rejoicing, as it were, in a calm rapture; diffusing around a sweet fragrancy.— J o na than E dwards .
