“Before I started Physical Therapy, I was in really bad shape, for nearly 2 years. The severe pain in my back and leg made it difficult to walk, let alone kayak, bike, and work around the house and garage. I am a very active individual and was hardly able to do anything because of the compression of the nerves in my back. I was diagnosed with stenosis of my spine. Surgery was recommended to resolve the problem, but I wanted to avoid surgery and had heard of some very successful stories from people with my same condition who had gone to physical therapy. I began working with Nick at Mid-Michigan Physical Therapy Specialists. At the first visit he performed a very thorough physical examination, and described what were some of the contributing factors that affected the space for the nerves in my back. I was encouraged by the hands on approach that we would be taking. Some of the first few stretches and sessions provided immediate relief. After the first 2 weeks of working with Nick, my pain had improved tremendously and I was able to walk with much less pain and more confidence. We soon began accelerating the exercises, strengthening my core, and working on activities that I needed to get back to lifting, biking and kayaking. Over the course of the next 2 months I was back to working on my house, exercising at a high level, and my pain was no longer affecting my life. “After more than 2 years of 24 hour pain, I was contemplating surgery.
