as active as it is now. This is beau tiful. But with ,jill our activity we may fear lest we are not loving Christ as we should.—J. B. Miller. As Blind Men Walk “And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; . . . I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them” (Isa. 42:16). We want to see the way we go, and yet, necessarily, we must walk by faith. God made it so, that man would be compelled to walkKby .faith. We forget that the blind can walk, and often with a surer step than we who see—if they are led by an unerring hand. That is what God undertakes to do for us. But will we trust Him? . . . He knows, the stones and pitfalls to avoid; He knows the detours that should be made; He knows where ene mies lie in wait.— Upward. Persistency “There bé four things which are little upon the earth, but they are ex ceeding wise . . . The spider .taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces” (Prov. 30:24, 28), Persistency is the lesson the spider would teach us. As'it “taketh hold” of ceilings, walls, fixtures and fur nishings and is in kings’ palaces, so the hands of faith seize the “exceeding great arid precious promises” and em brace them until faith gives place to sight in the palace of the blessed Po tentate, the King of kings, the Lord of lords.—Tom' M. Olson. 7. The Secret of Joy “Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Psa. 16:11). He who lives without prayer,,he who lives with little prayer, he who seldom reads the Word, he who seldom looks up to heaven for a fresh influence from on high-—he will be the man whose heart will become dry and bar ren. But he. who calls in secret on his God, who delights to meditate on the words of the Most High, whose soul is given up to Christ—such a man must have an overflowing heart; and as his heart is, such will his life be. —Charles Haddon Spurgeon. They so nestled themselves in Him that He was round them, and all the difficult circumstances were round Him.—William Tyndall. 5. 6.

1. Reckoning on Christ “The meek will he guide in judg ment: and the meek will he teach his way” (Psa. 25:9). Nowadays, the word “meek” may carry a suggestion of softness and of almost cowardly retreat. Yet the Old Testament type of meekness is Moses, the leader in great ventures, the cap tain of prolonged crusades. And the New Testament type of meekness is Jesus of Nazareth, the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Meekness is more than a*modest estimate of our personal re sources; it is a sure reckoning upon the unsearchable riches of Christ. —J. H. Jowett., The Pilgrim. Way “Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press to ward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:13, 14). Human hearts will ever be the same as they seek to live on a past experi ence rather than a present reality. God wants the pilgrim to go, with John Bunyan’s Christian, beyond the wicket gate (the cross) to the life of faith which lies there, fraught with>,trial and persecution it is true, but with many a “House Beautiful” along the way; for wherever the sufferings of Christ abound, His c o n s o l a t i o n s abound also, even as Paul testified. —Gene Farrell. 3. Calvary Love “That I may know. him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fel lowship of his sufferings; being made conformable unto his death” (Phil. 3:10). If by doing some work which the undiscerning consider “not spiritual work” I can best help others, and I inwardly rebel, thinking it is the spir itual for Which I crave, when in truth it is the interesting and exciting, then I know nothing of Calvary love. —Amy Carmichael. 4. Christ Claims Our Love “He that loveth, father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me” (Matt. 10:37). Loyalty to Christ b e g i n s in the heart. We must love Him supremely. Nothing makes worthy discipleship if love be lacking.. In these days, Chris tian activity is emphasized and re quired. Never was the church of Christ 2.
