Cpfnpare their Wo r s t with your worst, and not other people’s worst with your best. You Cannot be blihd to their faults, but you can be infi nitely tender and Compassionate. The most trying temperament with which you may be yoked will only bring out your noblest traits by giving them abundant exercise. Above all, seek the grace and power of the Holy Spirit. —F. B. Meyer. 23. Look to the'Foundation “For other foundation can no man lay than' that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3:11). Faith is the first stone of the build ing, but it is not the foundation. It is the act of cleaving to Christ, but all its value depends upon the foundation which is the Lord Jesus Christ. . . . A drowning man puts forth his hand and seizes a bit of froth that dancfes on the crest of the wave; his hand cleaves it like air and he sinks helpless in the deep. He is lost, not for want of pre cision in his aim, or of energy in his grasp, but for want of truth and power in the phantom to which he fled. —Arnot. 24. Inconsistencies “No man can serve two masters” (Matt. 6:24). Many things automatically cancel each other. Often we want to enjoy two exclusive things: worldly pleas ure and a clear conscience or true god liness; idle love of ease and success; the approval of heaven and earthly fame; self-gratification and perfect h e a l t h ; selfishness and true happi ness. These are all contrary and in consistent with each other. We must choose one or the other. “Ye cannot s e r v e God and mammon”— cannot! Like water and oil, they cannot mix. —William' E. Booth-Clibborh. 25. Does Your Body Glorify Christ? ‘‘Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made mani fest in our body” (1 Cor. 4:10). O my Lord, Thou has made me to know that this body will soon cease to be a body for me; therefore I will not pamper it. But Thou promisest it a resurrection; therefore I will not defile1it. Teach me how, in the body or out of the body, to dwell in Thee and honor Thy holy name. —Charles Haddon Spurgeon. 26. Faith and Feeling “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the w o r d of God”. (Rom. 10:17). Faith comes—not by introspection; ijot by kindling the emotions; not by examining our spiritual pulse—but by
being occupied with that which the Word of God sets forth. We must begin with fact: the fact of Christ set forth in all His. saving efficacy; the fact of His actual presence—His all- sufficiency. Faith steps out on these divine facts, stands on them, rests the whole weight of the soul’s need upon them . . . Then a Sense of rest and gladness comes into the heart, and the spirit of praise takes the place of the spirit of heaviness. —Evan H. Hopkins. 27. By Grace “By grace ye are saved” (Eph. 2:5). By grace He saves, by grace He keeps, By grace He leads each day;
