If you can speak fbr Christ in spite of sneering, Or to the most unlovely one show love; If you can pray when Satan’s darts are strongest, And take the road of faith instead of sight; Or walk with God, e’en though His way be longest, And swerve not to the left nor to the right; Then, ’tis not you, but CHRIST who dwelleth in you And that, O child of God, is VIC TORY! —Karle Lindstrom. 29. Looking for His Return “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly: Amen. E v e n -so, come, Lord Jesus” (Rev. 22:20). He is coming quickly. We look up, alas too often, to the clouds of heaven to see in them, with apprehensive fear, the vantage-post from which the enemy may rain upon us death and destruction. Do we forget to look up, with rejoicing hope, to the clouds of heaven on which the Son of Man is coming? Do we forget that, as a cloud received Him out of the sight of men, in like manner shall He come again? “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” —T. Miller Neatby. 30. Ground of Assurance “ If God be for us, w h o c a n be against us?” (Rom. 8:31). When Antigonus'was ready to en gage in a sea fight with Ptolemy’s armada, the pilot c r i e d out, “How many they are more than we!” / “ ’Tis true,” said the courageous king, “if you count their numbers, they surpass us; but for how many t 3 o you value me?" , And so the ground of our assurance rests not in ourselves, or anything that is ours—if it did it would be presump tion; it rests in Christ, and in what He has done.— The Pilot. 31. Who Gives Orders? “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is” (1 Cor. 3:13). There are two kinds of Christian workers: those who work for God in their own strength, and those who labor with God. . . . To work with God, we work at His command and in His strength. His is the heart that plans and the hand that guides.- His is the inspiration that quickens our minds, and His the passion that burns in our hearts. The lives we touch are touched by Him . . . . Miracles happen when God is working with us and through us.—Ernest Key.

In sickness, health, or sore distress, By grace He points the way. Believe in Him; He daily seeks Thy trusted Friend to be. In joy or sorrow, storm or strife, By grace He leadeth thee. By grace He leads the trusting soul Who daily seeks His will. When time and tide have drifted on, By grace He leadeth still. —J. M. McKown. 28. The Indwelling Christ “I am crucified with Christ: never theless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Gal. 2:20). If you can really long for His appear ing And therefore set your h e a r t s on things above;
