January’s Story		6
That sense of safety, belonging, and human connection would later become the foundation of Madonna Mission. Inspired by relationships with families like January’s, Lynn founded Madonna Mission to provide long-term educational and community support for refugee women and children navigating life in a new country. January became one of the organization’s earliest students, participating in both the After School Program and the Learning in Action summer program.		7
At Madonna Mission, she found more than academic support. She found a community. She found friendships. She found people who believed in her.		7
Today, January is in her twenties and works as the Administrative Assistant at Madonna Mission, the very organization that once helped her family begin again.		7
She earned a degree in graphic design from North Park University and has developed a gift for storytelling and creative work. But perhaps her greatest strength is the compassion she brings to families now walking the same difficult path her own family once traveled.		7
Every day, January helps refugee mothers, children, and newcomers feel welcomed, understood, and supported. In many ways, she has become for others what Madonna Mission once became for her: a source of stability, a familiar face, and a reminder that they are not alone.		7
Stories like January’s reflect the deeper mission of Madonna Mission and the community of donors and volunteers who sustain its work. Together, they help uncover gifts, talents, and futures that might otherwise remain unseen, creating not simply pathways to survival but opportunities to belong, grow, and thrive.		7
Our ESL program provides free English classes for refugee women ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Madonna Mission offers a warm and supportive environment where learning feels accessible and encouraging.		8
To remove common barriers, there is both free childcare and transportation, making it easier for women to participate consistently.		8

This summer, 42 students joined our ESL program across two classes and two language levels, with 1:1 tutoring available for higher-level students.		8
We wrapped up the session with a fun picnic day by Lake Michigan with snacks, games and good conversation to celebrate the close of the summer ESL session!		8

The HSPP at Madonna Mission prepares our 7th and 8th grade students for high school, offering entrance test preparation, writing workshops, school visits and research, interview prep, scholarship and financial application assistance. We help our students and families navigate the complex Chicago high school landscape to attend the school of their choice.		12
