Did you engage other team members?
How will you use your award to promote your business going forward? We enjoyed the immediate publicity we gained and the excitement of an appearance on Sky News! We know it carries prestige for us internationally and adds to our BSI ISO 13485 medical device accreditations. It has also provided network opportunities for us to develop a concept to take to clinical trial that we believe could provide a therapeutic benefit for Alzheimer’s Disease
And finally, could you please share some thoughts on what the Platinum Jubilee means to you? As we approach summer 2022 and the Platinum Jubilee, it is an opportunity to reflect on what diplomatic and stoic service Her Majesty the Queen provides us as a proud nation. It makes me appreciate that we have the good fortune to live in a democracy with values that are admired around the World; where recognition by Her Majesty the Queen has value that is intangible but valued at an emotional level. I will certainly be celebrating the extended bank holiday weekend with friends and family and wishing our Queen good health.
Whilst the application was very much a team effort with different members of the team contributing, we tasked just one person to coordinate, script, write and edit the final application. Describe any challenges you overcame in the process? Like all challenges, we broke the application down into constituent parts and gave each to the designated expert in that area. We backed the team approach of us together being greater than the sum of the parts. Happily, this approach worked well for us. Now you’ve won an award, what advice would you give to others thinking of applying? Check you meet the initial criteria and if you do apply then be prepared to allocate adequate time and resources to the application as it does require a considerable amount of coordination. Speaking with a past winner/winners would be a good start.
Would you consider applying again in future?
The Award has afforded recognition that has helped us gain funding for new and innovative products so I hope we might be able to apply for an Innovation Award in the next few years. What do you consider to be the benefits of being a Queen’s Award holder? It has been a massive morale boost; something positive to rally around during the pandemic, which has seen a lot of economic and emotional difficulties across our community. As an accolade it is a badge of gravitas that will help endorse our position when looking for partners to collaborate with, both in the UK and internationally.
