In Your Corner: From Riyadh to Paris with the Esports World Cup
Every championship has its origin story, and usually, somewhere in it, there is a corner that was there before the cameras arrived. When the Esports World Cup launched in Riyadh in 2024, stc was there not as a late addition to the sponsorship roster but as an Elite and Founding Partner, one of the organizations whose commitment helped make the event real. Over two editions, the tournament grew into something that justified every early belief: 2,000 professional players and 200 Clubs from more than 100 countries, competing across 25 tournaments and 24 game titles, watched by 750 million viewers around the world. This summer, the Esports World Cup left Saudi Arabia for the first time. From 6 July to 23 August, Paris Expo Porte de Versailles hosted twenty-four of the world’s biggest esports titles and a $75 million prize pool, the largest in the history of the sport. A new city, a new continent, and for the first time, a European crowd experiencing EWC on home ground. It was the kind of moment that reveals what a partnership is actually made of. stc’s answer was its presence throughout the event, from branding woven across venues and competition spaces to naming rights on three of the tournament’s flagship destinations: the stc Arena, a competitive hub where VALORANT, League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 were contested; the stc Player’s Lounge, a dedicated space for the world’s best players, teams, and creators; and stc Contenders, a further named presence across the tournament. When the biggest matches of EWC 2026 were fought, they were fought in a venue that carried stc’s name. Beyond the venue, stc tv carried the tournament to audiences who could not be in Paris, including fans back in Riyadh, the city where EWC was born, watching the event they helped build from the very beginning. Building on a platform that streamed EWC 2025 live, stc tv brought Paris to the world through dedicated broadcast integrations, from stc Replay to live Twitch segments, making EWC 2026 as accessible to a fan in Saudi Arabia as to one sitting a few metro stops from Porte de Versailles. A good corner does not take credit for the fighter’s victories. It shows up, does the work, and trusts that the investment will speak for itself over time. What stc brought to Paris was three years of that kind of commitment: to a tournament, to a community, and to a vision for what competitive gaming could become on a global stage. The name on the arena is the most visible part. The years behind it are what give it weight. The corner was there before the first round. In Paris, three years on, it was still there.
