King's Business - 1960-09

On June 25 of this year, Mrs. Helen Frazee- Bower was ushered into the glorious presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Her poems have been grea(tly blessed of God through the years. As a memorial to her dedicated talents, the follow ing selected gems are shared with our readers. While being confined to a wheel chair for a number of years, her ability to capture beautiful Scriptural truths in verse seemed only to be en hanced through the difficult experience.

GARMENT OF PRAISE Like to a worn-out garment, cast aside, From off my heart the heavy spirit fell, As, moving through the darkness, far and wide, A rising tide of song began to swell. Song after song came crowding to be heard, Till heaviness was lost in ecstasy— And all earth's faces vanished and were blurred In one Face, strangely beautiful to see. For all the songs are one song, and the face Is one Face only, when the heart has known The matchless Christ and His redeem ing grace. There cannot be another: He alone Moves on the fringe of all our nights and days— And clothes us with the garment of His praise. BECAUSE HE LIVES Here is the tomb, but where, oh where, is He? The women, sorrowing, looked all around: Their eyes were holden and they could not see, Who kept their vision only on the ground. "H e is not here"— how beautiful and true! Christ does not sleep within the narrow room: He lives! Because of that, I shall live, too; Death and the grave are not the final doom. Because He lives, I know God's claim is met And ail my sin is covered. I may go, Complete in Him, to walk above the fret

And storm of life, for this one thing I know: Earth is not all . . . These longing eyes shall see His blessed face throughout eternity. A MOTHER'S PRAYER Lord, nothing I can say will be enough To keep him at my side; But, when the way grows long and steep and rough, Be Thou his guide. M y love would hold him close, but distance calls: The far horizon's rim Beckons. Beyond the shelter of these wails, Remember him. Thy mother knew the anguish, sud den, brief, That makes these eyes go blind With woman's tears: But Thou didst know the grief Of all mankind. Thou wast a young man once in Nazareth . . . Henceforth I must forego His secret thoughts, his dreams of life and death, But Thou wilt know. This is the end: The work of heart and hands— The mother-task— all done; But, safely, with the One who under stands I leave my son. ASSURANCE "Be still, and know that I am God"— Not that the trials will cease, Not that the crooked will be straight, Or chaos turn to peace; Not these. It may, or may not, be Within His blessed will To change the circumstance; but, heart, "Be still," He says, "Be still." Be still and know that He is God. For pathways steep and rough, Not what He brings, but what He is Will always be enough.
