of God, and lacking that, how shall our spirits be sustained? There is no substitute. . Modern' domestic and so- .cial life is one grand rush after an other. . . . . Our need is to sit down with God’s Word, ancC through its pages, hear His voice to us.— Upward. 14. Some Day We Shalt Know “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face” (1 Cor. 13»12). Some day God will sit down with us in the glorious home, and we shall have all the ages in which to understand all the story of our lives. And He will read over again this old marked Bible with us, and He will explain to us the mysteries that we could not understand. He will recall to our memory the things we have long forgotten. He will' go over with us the Book of Life. He will recall all the unfinished story . . . and then the great chorus will be repeated once more, “There failed not aught of any good thing which the Lord had spoken . . . all came to pass.” —A. B. Simpson. 15. Prepare for Great Service “Well done, good and faithful serv ant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord” (Matt. 25:23). It is the habit of making sacrifices in small things that fits us for making them in great, when it is asked of us. Temper, love of preeminence, bodily indulgence, the quick retort,

‘‘That God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ” (1 Pet. 4:11). I suspect that much of our praying to be “used” is selfish, and under neath it is the desire to make our mark and be recognized. We would use the divine sanction to “put our selves across.” Simply to drop all our dreams and ambitions and prefer ences and have no mind about it all, but be willing for God to shift us anywhere in life, counting not our lives dear, and loving them not unto the death, gladly yielding ourselves for God to please Himself with, any where and any way He chooses—that is rarely done.—Vance Havner. 11 . Secret Sins “Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance”^ (Psa. 90:8). The secret sins here spoken of are sins secret from thyself. They may be quite visible to others. It is a very difficult thing to “see ourselves as others see us.” . . . No man can see his sin by looking at it; he can only see it by looking away from it. Only by the vision of purity can I learn my impurity. I never find that I am in rags until my Father brings forth the best robe . . . I never am con scious that 1 am a prodigal until the voice of my Father cries, “This my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” . —George Matheson. Ip Spiritual Growth “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ” (Eph. 4:15). God never places us in any position in which we cannot grow. We may . fancy that He does. We may fear we are so impeded by fretting, petty cares that we are gaining nothing; but when we are not sending any branches up ward, we may be sending roots down ward. Perhaps in the time of our humiliation, when everything seems a failure, we are making the best kind of progress.—Prentiss. 13. Too Much Hurry? “And he commanded the multitude to sit down’’ (Matt. 14:19). "Their strength is to sit still” (Isa. 30:7). Had the multitude bustled about that day, trying to be “helpful,” there could have been no feast. Activity is not everything. . . . A scurrying about, and never taking time to eat, defeats the very program of helpfulness we desire to achieve. Our souls need nourishment from the Word of God, but many good people are too busy doing God’s work to read it. Now our spiritual food is the Word
