LIVE YOUR LIFE FREE OF BACK PAIN Say Goodbye to Pain Once and for All!

For some, back pain is a daily occurrence that dictates the way you live your life. Every movement, every motion is determined by the pain in your back. Standing, sitting, laying down, driving, walking or running — the pain persists. In ages past, back pain was difficult to treat. If you experienced back pain, whether as a result of a work injury, trip- and-fall accident, or even just as a result of aging, the answer was almost always the same: head home, take a long rest, and give your back time to heal. This isn’t the way that things go anymore, and for severalreasons.Tostart, theworld isn’tas forgiving.Headinghomeandtakinga long restuntilyourback ishealedmayworkfor some, but not for most. With deadlines andcarpoolsandworkschedulestokeep up with, there needs to be an alternate solution to dealing with back pain that doesn’trequireyoutocompletelyremove yourself from your responsibilities. What’s more, recent research indicates that resting may not actually be the ideal solution for long-term back care. Spending toomuch time on the couch or off your feet can cause the backmuscles to weaken and can even weaken bone strength. This could lead to more long- term issues with back pain — not fewer. Exercise, in general, is shown to increase strengthandflexibility, supportinghealthy muscles and bones, and therefore supporting ideal back health. Therapy for Back Pain While rest and relaxation can help you overcome the immediate pain of a back injury, andmayevenberecommendedby your physician in the early days following

an injury, it is not a long-term solution. BothphysiotherapyandOsteopathyoffer long-termsolutions to back pain by using targeted exercises and hands-onmanual therapies that focus on the cause of the pain. Through a combination of strength and flexibility training that focuses on muscledevelopmentand jointmovement, physiotherapycanaddresstheunderlying causeofthepainandsignificantly improve your quality of life. Understanding the Why and How There are a lot of different reasons that back pain can develop. Even when you breakdown injuries, whetherfromoveruse or athletic pursuits, there are different problems that can arise. Sprains and strains are common, but so are issues with the vertebrae, blood flow, and even concerns regarding the spinal nerves. You might be amazed to discover the differentfactorsthatcouldbe influencing your back health, such as: • Your personal level of physical activity, including how often you exercise and the intensity of your typical workouts. • The types of shoes that you wear, in addition to how frequently you walk in different types of shoes (particularly shoes that lack support, or those with high heels.) • Prolonged engagement in sedentary behavior, including sitting at a desk for eight hours or more consecutive days of the week, or spending free time on the couch. Aerobic activity and strength training exercises actually make it possible to

reduce your risk of injury. They can also improve your ability to overcome back pain by strengthening the vertebrae and supporting blood flow and nutrient disbursementthroughouttheback. When you are inactive, blood flow can actually become impeded, and this can have a negative effect on the overall health of your back and spine. How Therapy at Kinetesis Helps Anyonewhohasstruggledwithbackpain can tell you plain and simple: When your back ishurting, there isnowaytopretend that it isn’t. Simply going from sedentary activity to being active and healthy isn’t an option—at least not so easily. It takes time and effort, and when back pain is obstructing you from getting started, it requires help. Services such as Physiotherapy and Osteopathy can help you overcome back pain by giving you the knowledge and support necessary to help your back feel better, giving you the option to get off the couch and push yourself to reach new goals. Working with a licensed and experienced physiotherapist or osteopathic manual therapist ensures that you do not take on too much too quickly, but instead are guided through theprocessofhealingwithgradualsteps. Graston Technique

The Graston technique is a form of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), a type of ManualTherapy that incorporates special ergonomic tools that are used to gently massage and scrape parts of the skin.Thesestainlesssteel instrumentsareused toheal injuries to thesoft tissues, such as sprains, strains, subluxations, and repetitive use injuries. TheGrastonTechniquecanalsobeusedtotreatnumerousotherconditions, including lower back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff tears, quadricep pain, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, and headaches. How can the Graston Technique help me? When an individual is injured, adhesions and scar tissue may occur either in the tissues or in the skin. Scar tissue is a type of fibrous connective tissue that receives less blood than normal tissue and stretches much less. It tends to be thick and may build up around the ligaments, tendons, and muscles after an injury. The buildup of soft tissue is referred to as adhesions. Injuries thatmayresult inadhesions includeshinsplints, pulled hamstrings, meniscal tears and much more. It is believed that scar tissue and adhesions prevent the underneath body structuresfrommovingproperly. This isbecause ligaments, tendons, and muscles are unable to move freely. Over time, even the wear and tear of

everyday life can cause muscle fibers to adhere to each other irregularly. With Graston, the treatment causes a muscle fiber separation, which reduces pain and increases functional mobility. What are some benefits of the Graston Technique? • Reduces inflammation and pain for better quality of life • Boosts cellular activity for good health • Breaks down collagen cross-links • Increases mobility and ability to perform daily tasks • Increases rate of volume and blood flow to affected areas to enhance healing Are you ready to get started on the path toward relief and recovery? As a young individual, I didn’t think I had to be so careful with

bending and twisting my body. I injured my lower back at work and was barely able to walk and sit without extreme pain. I didn’t have much relief from other forms of treatment, so I was really amazed at how much better I felt after just one Osteopathy treatment. I have had great success with not only my back but alsomy overall health. I would highly recommend Brad at Kinetesis to anyone.” — R. C.
