If we follow the terminology of the Au thorized Version, it would doubtless be more accurate to speak of the preservation of the believer rather than of his security. But the idea is the same. 2. “ Turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness” (v. 4). According to the Word of God there are at least four dif ferent wrong attitudes that men may take toward the grace of God. First, there is the attitude of contempt. Hebrews 10:29 declares that men may do “ despite unto the Spirit of grace.” The word means to “ insult.” Second, there is the attitude of legalism, which substitutes law for grace as a means of salvation. These are the men described in Galatians 5:4, R.V., who were “ fallen away from grace.” Third, there is the attitude of compromise, where men attempt to mix law and grace. Such an attitude “frustrates” the grace of God, or, more literally, makes it void and pow erless. But the worst of all is the atti tude of license, described in Jude 4, where certain men used the grace of God as an excuse for sinning. Such an attitude is impossible for the' true Christian, for it involves, according to Jude, a denial of both . God and Christ (v. 4). The right attitude toward grace is to receive it by faith in all its purity, and-Jet it work out the good work of God in our lives.

His mother replied, “ God grant my dar ling boy may so live as always to stand in God’s smile.” Not long after, God called the mother, and the boy was left to the cafe of others. He grew to manhood and grew in favor with the king, and tried to please him, and forgot to put God first. But he was restless and unhappy. God’s smile was gone. One day, looking over some relics, he found a paper parcel, and opening it found a tiny pair of shoes and these lines in his mother’s handwriting: “ These shoes were worn by my darling boy when he was two years of age. He stood in a ray of sunlight, saying, ‘Me standing in God’s smile, Mamma.’’ God grant that my dar ling boy may so live as always to stand in God’s srpile.” Through these lines God spoke to him. He saw that he had been standing in the king’s smile, and lost God’s smile. He dedi cated his life to his mother’s God, and became a humble follower of her Saviour and Lord .—lflOO Tales Worth Telling, by H. Pickering. fore David became king of the children of Israel, he was a shepherd boy. Many times he was alone in the hills with no person near to help him. If a lion crept up to steal a sheep or kill a shepherd, there was no person to help him but himself. If a storm swept through the hills, there was no one to provide a shel ter. David knew all of this, and he knew how many times he was helpless before all of the things that happened to him. But as he guarded his sheep in .the hills, he learned that there was a Helper who never failed him, and this Helper is God. Can you think of how David would sing this beautiful song about Him? It begins: “ I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills.” And as he looked around, he must have thought of all of the dangers and troubles which might come to him from these hills, for then he says: “ From whence cometh my help?” He knew that he couldn’t get along through his own strength. But at once he remembered that he didn’t need
