Her career goal is to become an illustrator, but she also hopes to inspire others with her passion for art. “I want to show people that art is impor- tant.”

A trio of talented young painters will re- ceive a bit of help with their tuition ex- penses when they go on to college or uni- versity after graduation. ARTour, a regional organization dedicat- ed to promoting artists and the arts in the Prescott-Russell region, announced its 2013 Young Artists Scholarships recipients. Kia Kortelainen of Rockland District High School, Shawn Duval of l’école secondaire publique Le Sommet, and Mylène Couture Upper Canada schools broaden Internet presence BROCKVILLE | The Upper Canada school district is increasing its presence on the Information Superhighway. The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) has signed a collaborative agree- ment with the Eastern Ontario Network (EON). Together the two entities will pro- mote and share Upper Canada district school news, events and information through UCTV, the board’s own exclu- sive online video streaming channel, and through EasternOntarioTV.com, the EON streaming channel. EON staff will help the UCDSB commu- nications and relationship management department staff to produce both live and recorded broadcasts for UCTV, and also work with staff at district schools, along with students in the Grades 5 to 12 levels, on a curriculum that will teach students the skills involved in producing live and record- ed broadcasts. The goal is to create student-focused shows on sports, school life, student poli- tics, arts and other topics of interest to the overall school community. Some students with interests in online journalism and pho- tography may have a chance to produce feature content for EON’s news and infor- mation site at EasternOntarioNetwork.com.
