Project Quality Review Methodology Value and Purpose

It is a project management best practice to complete regular reviews to validate project performance. These reviews provide the opportunity to learn from what is working, identify areas of improvement and lessons learned, and adjust or correct as needed. As part of the services provided to CWU, the PMO conducts Project Quality Reviews (PQR) to ensure a project meets or exceeds specific project deliverables and stays on-track toward achieving the agreed upon scope as defined, scheduled, and budgeted. The PQR is focused on verifying and validating that the activities and resulting deliverables occurred as 2) Confirm that project team members fully understood and accepted their roles and responsibilities. 3) Confirm that project team members fully understood and successfully utilized the project management methods and associated tools and techniques defined for the project. 4) Confirm that the project was led and supported by a sponsor who has the authority to makedecisions and actively participated in the project. 5) Confirm that the project manager functioned effectively and efficiently. 6) Assess project characteristics, including technical, functional, and leadership aspects. 7) Identify and communicate areas of strength for the project. 8) Identify and communicate areas of weakness for the project and present suggestions for corrective action. 9) When applicable, confirm the project has been closed out. The findings in a PQR are documented for both the current project participants and sponsors, but also to guide and inform future efforts. The establishment of a standard PQR process and repository of PQR documents will serve the university community as it continues to grow in project management maturity. Timing For large and/or multi-year projects, a formal project quality review process is available from the Project Management Office. The trigger for a PQR can be planned as part of the project timeline or can be requested by a project sponsor or PMO. Here is the proposed timing for a PQR in a project life cycle: • Mid-Project Review: Halfway point, after a major milestone or ad hoc • Project Close-Out: At project completion Deliverable The delivered documentation of the PQR is a formal report that provides a summary of the review and identifies project strengths and opportunities. With each instance of PQR, the report is updated. Full PQR Steps There are four steps for the PQR: planned and required to ensure project scope was successfully achieved. 1) Review and validate project documents related to the completed project.
