Local woman named Woman of Excellence
Holstein clubs, work with the winter fair and the former Ottawa Winter Fair (now in Kemptville), farm tours, and cattle shows. For 20 years she has worked on the Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec Holstein Champion shows, has been on the Farm Tours Ontario branch committee, has worked with the Metcalfe Fair and other fairs and shows, and has offered their farm for tours by foreign visitors and schools. She, her husband John and their two children also milk 80 cows on the farm which she grew up on.

Regarding 4-H she says, “It’s been pretty much 40 years of kids and cows.” She describes weekends with multiple shows requiring close coordination. “I really like that part of it—watching kids with calves do well and progress.”They do fewer school tours now, due to the schools’ insurance issues. She says that’s a shame. “Sometimes when the kids have a buddy out from town, this is their only exposure to agriculture.”

The award is given by Women’s Institutes to one Ontario woman with exceptional accomplishments who showed dedication to agriculture and promotion of agriculture.
