Hamel. “We have a lot of spaces to fill, and a community to keep happy.” AlthoughMikeDeans had trouble keeping food on the shelves over the past fewmonths, Hamel said the shelves are stocked, and full of fresh items just in time for the opening. “The shelves are being stocked as we speak,” quipped Hamel. “Everything will be ready for our opening.” Scott Foley, regional manager and director of operations, said the sale went through rather quickly and organizers had to hustle to be prepared. “It’s an exciting time for us,” said Foley. “The store is going to be full again.” Foodland is a chain of grocery stores in Ontario, owned by Sobeys Inc. The store in Vankleek Hill is currently a corporate run store, but is being prepared to be sold as a franchise. “Right nowwe just want to get the doors open,” said Foley. “We will update the branding as we go along. We are getting it ready and then we will Franchise it out to someone, hopefully local.”

The new grocery store is cleaning up, stocking shelves, and hiring new employees. “We hope to hire about 45 to 50 people,” said Karine Hamel during a Foodland job fair on June 11. “We will be operating from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.” Hamel said employees from the Mike Dean’s store were welcomed to stay on, or had the choice of going to one of the other Mike Dean’s locations. Although 14 previous employees will be staying on to work for the Foodland brand, most of the employees required to run the operation were chosen from the recent job fair. “We will still be taking applications even after we open,” said

It’s finally here.The newFoodland grocery store opened its doors at 7 a.m., June 17, much to the delight of local patrons. The shelves are full, the store is clean, and shoppers are happy. There has been much controversy over the closure of Mike Dean’s recently. In a recent press release, the Dean family stated that the store would not close, however, closed it is.
