2026 NYC Parent Survey: What Child Care Parents Want

America and Robin Hood partnered with NORC at the University of Chicago to conduct the largest rep- resentative survey to date of NYC parents and caregivers with children under six. 8 Developed in collab- oration with the Mayor’s Office for Child Care and Early Childhood Education, the roughly 50-question survey covered a range of topics: current child care arrangements and schedules, awareness of exist- ing programs, views on and priorities related to child care quality, parental leave (both paid and unpaid) experiences and preferences, and ideal child care arrangements and schedules. Over the course of three weeks in the spring of 2026, 4,306 parents and caregivers completed the survey. When weight- ed, the survey is representative of all NYC parents with at least one child under six. 9 This report reflects a comprehensive, though not exhaustive, overview of what we learned.
